Game 95: Marian Catholic vs. Minooka (Boy's Basketball)

Game 95
Marian Catholic vs. Minooka (Boy's Basketball)
Galesburg Martin Luther King Tournament
(1/15/11)

After recharging with a break and hospitality room, the Marian Catholic Spartans and Minooka Indians took the floor for the 2nd time today.  Each team plays two games on Saturday and two games on Monday.

After falling by two points and playing a close game throughout against York, Minooka played another tight game with Marian Catholic.  The game was knotted, 11-11, after one quarter.  John Rohde knocked down a couple of three-pointers for the Spartans.

Freshman guard Tyler Ulis scored 7 points in the 2nd quarter for Marian Catholic, and had 13 points at halftime, as Minooka had taken a 26-25 lead behind Adam Reynolds' 9 points and Lavell Dean's 8 points.  Ulis ranked 51st in the freshman class, nationally, by ESPN.

Marian Catholic outscored Minooka 17-15 in the 3rd quarter taking a 42-41 lead heading into the 4th quarter.  It resulted in another two-point game for the Minooka Indians, but this time they would prevail, winning 62-60 after outscoring the Spartans 21-18 in the last eight minutes.

Adam Reynolds scored a team-high 18 points for Minooka, while Lavell Dean and Jake Hogen added 14 points each.  Tyler Ulis scored a game-high 21 points, and John Rohde added 15 points.  Brian Gates scored 11 points for the Spartans.

It was a well played game, with Minooka turning the ball over just 10 times, and Marian Catholic only committed 7 turnovers.

After the game, I took the next game off to prepare for the Galesburg/Warren contest.  York battled Sterling, and won, 62-41.  At halftime, Jimmie Carr interviewed Warren head coach Chuck Ramsey, while I retrieved a couple of waters for the broadcast.  After Jimmie's interview, I caught coach Mike Reynolds and had a brief pregame interview.
