Game 23: Galesburg vs. Metamora (Girl's Basketball)

Game 23
Galesburg vs. Metamora (Girl's Basketball)
Galesburg Tournament (@ Knox College)
11/26/10

The originally schedule 23rd broadcast was supposed to be back at John Thiel Gymnasium for the Urbana/Thornridge game. It was scheduled to tip off at 1:30, however the Galesburg/Collins game did not tip off until after 1:00. The Urbana/Thornridge game did not tip off until around 2:45, and my next broadcast was across town at Knox College at 4:30, and my equipment needed to be set up. Too much of a time crunch, so the originally scheduled broadcast had to be scrapped.

Following our postgame show on WAIK, I packed up the necessary equipment that needed to be taken over to Knox. After all was packed, I headed down to the hospitality room for some lunch. The IHSA State Championships were on the TV, and I dove into some Pizza House sub sandwiches and a bottle of water.

I made it over to Memorial Gymnasium in time for the start of the Galesburg/Metamora fresh/soph girl's basketball game. This was the only game being played at Knox, along with the varsity game, with the other games at Knoxville High School.

The Metamora sophomores led Galesburg 22-6 after the first quarter, but the Silver Streaks rallied back in the second half and would win by a few points. Just before halftime, I conducted my pregame interview with coach Evan Massey. We talked about his blog, which has been one of my daily reads. He updates it often, and provides some great insight on his program. Here is Massey's blog: http://masseybasketball.blogspot.com/

Before the game, Galesburg assistant coach Jacque Gohlinghorst came up to get the radio broadcast hooked up to the game film camcorder. We hooked it up straight from my Cellcaster unit, into the camcorder.

The Streaks got off to a hot start, leading Metamora 25-11 after one quarter. Seven players scored in the first eight minutes. Ten players had scored by halftime, with Galesburg leading 48-24.

Galesburg would move their record to 3-2 on the year with a 78-47 win, their second consecutive lopsided win. Sadee Hamilton led the Streaks with 18 points, while Jamie Johnson added 13 points, and Jessica Lieber scored 11 points. The Redbirds were paced by Kelsey Nofstiger's 11 points and 10 points from Ally Friday.

In three-point shooting, Galesburg was 9-40, and committed just 10 turnovers, while forcing 42 turnovers.

Game 23 Miles: 5
