Game Two: Knoxville vs. Havana

Game 2
Knoxville vs. Havana

I looked at this game to be one of the best games in the tournament. It didn't surprise, lasting to overtime. The Ducks lost four starters from last year's team, but coach Jerry Wilson went very deep and several of this year's players saw varsity time as freshmen or sophomores last year. I liked to call last year's rotation a bunch of interchangeable parts. Still, it's tough to break such a well-oiled machine. The Ducks appeared in a Class 1A Supersectional last year, forcing Brimfield to double overtime before falling to the Class 1A 4th place Indians. Knoxville advanced to a Class 2A Sectional a season ago under Matt Gibson. Hannah Weedman highlights the Blue Bullets. She just signed on to play at the Unversity of Evansville. She is flanked by another post, a rangy (6'0" Sophomore) Haley Jones, who missed half of last season with a knee injury. Knoxville also played a freshman several minutes, Tessa Jones. Haley Jones is one of those players who always ends up on the floor, whether it be falling on a rebound, diving after loose balls, or in-your-face defense. Abby Ball, running the point for KHS, is also scrappy. Havana controlled this game through much of the game, but went to a stall offense, which backfired, and Knoxville battled back to force overtime. It was all Blue Bullets in the extra session, winning by seven points. Hannah Weedman had a game-high 18 points, followed by Abby Ball's 17 points. Ball went 11-15 from the free throw line, including 10-12 in the fourth quarter and in overtime.
