Game 1: Pleasant Plains vs. Rockridge

Game One

Pleasant Plains vs. Rockridge
I felt that Pleasant Plains would overmatch Rockridge in this game. The Rockets lost most, if not all, of their starters from last season, and returned a limited amount of girls with significant varsity experience. On the other hand, Pleasant Plains returned five starters from a (27-5) team. I was quite shocked, when Rockridge jumped out to a 15-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. That would be the end of it for coach Paul Kastner's crew, with the Cardinals rolling off an 8-0 run to start the 2nd quarter, and outscoring the Rockets (16-5) in that frame. The second half started much the same way, with Rockridge failing to score in the first four minutes. I love the hustle and defense of Abby Bruce. I interviewed coach Kastner after the game and mentioned her hustle and skinned knees she probably gets. He brought up the fact that she is wearing a headband from a concussion suffered last year....that's hustle! No surprises why she earned defensive MVP honors at Plains last year. For Rockridge, I was impressed by the scrappy play of Kaylee Moseley. Tia Fuhr and Kayla Macke, who each played varsity time last year did a nice job as well.

Leading Scorer: Kelsey Owens (Pleasant Plains): 23 points

Story of the Game: Turnovers. Much to be expected for the first game of the season.
