Game 53
Alleman vs. Pleasant Valley (Boy's Basketball)
Iowa/Illinois Shootout
(12/18/10)
The second game of the day pits the Alleman Pioneers against the Pleasant Valley Spartans. In broadcasting a plethora of games, it is nice to see the teams that Galesburg (main team I broadcast for) will be playing in the future, helping me dissect the matchups a little more.
That is the main struggle, as mentioned before, with broadcasting a large number of games. The scouting and homework on the games is minimal, especially during shootouts like this. After this year, I will continue to broadcast a large amount of games, but not near 150, since it takes a toll on the content within the broadcasts, i.e. preparation.
Pleasant Valley is the other new team to the shootout. They came into this matchup with a 2-3 record, while Alleman has begun 3-5.
Aaron Brenner told me before this game that it could be the first team to 40 points, wins. He was correct. Both teams played a slow tempo game, and it was just a 9-5 game after one quarter, and 17-8 at halftime. The Iowa side (Pleasant Valley) would claim the win, beating Alleman 47-28.
During the first half, all eight of Alleman's points came from Tyler Yeocum. He finished with a game-high 16 points. The sharpshooting Ben Alpen led Pleasant Valley with 15 points, hitting five three-pointers. He knocked down his first four attempts from outside the arc.
The Spartans went 13-18 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Alleman went to the line six times, and converted three of six at the charity stripe.
Alleman's Mamadou Barry gets my "Name of the Game" award. He finished with 4 points for the Pioneers. In my final blog of the shootout, I will name my All-Name Team, complete with a head coach and coaching staff.
