Game 27: Galesburg vs. Rich East (Girl's Basketball)

Game 27
Galesburg vs. Rich East (Girl's Basketball)
Galesburg Tournament
11/27/10

Another scheduled broadcast had to go to the wayside, due to timing. After the Galesburg/Washington game, the post-game show went a little longer than expected, and the 15:00 clock started immediately after the contest due to the lateness of the tournament. It was just early afternoon, but tonight was also the Hall of Fame Night for Galesburg High School. The festivities were scheduled to begin at 5:00, followed by the girl's game and then the nightcap, the boy's game.

The setup was changed a little bit than what was done in previous years. Prior, the girl's would play, followed by the Hall of Fame induction ceremony, then the boy's basketball game.

After the post-game show wrapped up, the Urbana/Rich Central game started immediately. I caught up on some things, and went to the hospitality room to fill out my scorebook for the night games.

I headed back into the gym, and watched the high scoring affair. It would have been a good one to call, as the final was 102-87 in favor of Rich Central. I left with about 2:00 on the clock, and took my IHSSN equipment to the car, and then decided to take a quick drive around town to get some fresh air.

Back at the gym, people were starting to come in for the Hall of Fame reception. The Collins/Washington game was being played out, and Collins would win 54-34. During the game, coach Massey came up and we conducted the pregame interview.

We broadcast the Hall of Fame ceremony on 1590 WAIK. The Class of 2010 included; Bill Westfall ('71), Greg Turner ('84), Keith Vandermeulen ('86), Jeremy Lee ('93), Herbert Pihl ('13), Charles Fach ('57), Marvin Harris ('65), Guy Vitale (friend of GHS Athletics), and the 1989 Baseball team.

The Silver Streaks shots were falling in their game against Rich East! They led 26-8 after one quarter, and 59-27 at the HALF. Their 59-point effort set a school record for points in a half, breaking the 58 points scored against Mattoon in 1995.

Once again, there was balanced scoring for Galesburg, with Jessica Howard leading the way with 21 points. She hit six three-pointers. The Streaks finished 12-40 from the three-point line, and won the game 86-55. Jessica Lieber scored 15 points, and Jamie Johnson had 12 points, 13 rebounds. Rich East was led by Makeba Elliot's 17 points. Assistant coach Andie Allison joined us on the postgame show, and we have had each coach on in the past three games (Massey, Gohlinghorst, Allison).
