Game 25
Moline vs. Thornridge (Boy's Basketball)
Galesburg Tournament
11/27/10
It was another short night of sleep after getting home after 11:00 Friday night. The alarm rang at 4:30, and it was back to the office to begin another long day at the gym.
After finishing up at the radio station, I made my way back to John Thiel Gymnasium, but first a stop at the McDonald's drive-thru, for a vanilla latte and a breakfast burrito.
Walking into the gym, the Curie/Urbana game was in full swing. Curie won the game, 68-60. As I was setting up the equipment, I had thought I heard an obscenity being screamed out by one of the coaches. As I looked up, a technical foul was being assessed. The coach said, "I was talking to my player." A fan in the stands shouted out, "You can't curse!" I later asked someone that was in the gym what was yelled out, and it turned out the coach screamed to one of his player, "What's your F----ng problem?!"
The Moline/Thornridge game was tipping off, and there was a big missing link in the Maroons starting lineup. Anthony Lindauer was not a part of the starting five. He was held out of the first quarter, second quarter, and did not check in at all during the 43-28 Moline win. I later learned from Marc Nesseler of the Moline Dispatch that Lindauer was given a one-game suspension after picking up his second technical foul of the week the day before, in a loss to Rich Central.
Lindauer had picked up a foul, and then pulled his jersey over his face to draw the technical. Rich Central made all four free throws, and a three-pointer on that posession. They would turn that into a 16-0 run, and win by three points, 56-53.
The Maroons led Thornridge 20-15 at halftime, but held the Falcons to just two points in the third quarter, jumping out to a 26-17 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Jamaree Atwater had another big game, and the athletic 6'2" junior has been impressive in this tournament. He finished with 11 points, five rebounds in the win. Grey Giovanine, the son of Augustana head basketball coach (and former Lamar University head coach), Grey Giovanine, scored a game-high 13 points. Thornridge had a balanced, albeit low, scoring attack. Barry Howard (8), Sinclair Stevenson (6), and Anthony Dunbar (5) led the Falcons. Both teams committed 16 turnovers. Moline finished 15-16 from the free throw line.
