Game 22
Galesburg vs. Collins Academy (Boy's Basketball)
Galesburg Tournament
11/26/10
Following the Rich Central/Curie game, I was on the air for the Silver Streaks and Collins Academy (Chicago). Collins did not have a roster in the original program that I had picked up for the Moline/Galesburg game on Wednesday.
When I arrived at the gym during the Moline/Chicago Washington game, I talked with Galesburg coach Mike Reynolds, and he admitted leaving the roster out of the first batch of programs. However, Collins did not send numbers with their roster.
After my pregame interview with Reynolds, I headed down to talk with Collins Academy coach Arristede Glasper and get numbers and pronunciations. There weren't many tricky names in the Warriors lineup, since a couple of the guys had played in the tournament last season; Taurean Watson and Jaureese Gaines.
Wearing our new long sleeve radio station polos, with the three station logos, Reynolds made the first of two references of the shirt on the day. He the stations should be a sponsor next year, and get our logos on the court, pointing out that Galesburg Anesthesiology Dr. Sean Kane had his name on the floor as a title sponsor. Later in the day, Galesburg girl's coach Evan Massey looked at the logos and mentioned that if we added any other stations, it would look like a NASCAR.
Galesburg jumped out to a 16-4 lead after the first quarter, and Brandon Thompson scored 14 of those points. He scored 24 points in the season opener against Moline, and would match that scoring output in this game. Dalton Davis scored 16 points in the Silver Streaks 55-23 win.
Ryan Carl (6'5" So.) stepped into a starting role, and pulled down 8 rebounds for Galesburg. He replaced Trimaine Carson in the starting five, as coach Reynolds wanted Carson's energy off the bench.
