Game 55
(1/9/10)
Brown County vs. Liberty (Girl's Basketball)
Lady Panther Classic (@ Camp Pt. Central)
Fatigue had begun to set in. I also realized that I would be cutting it close following this broadcast, and making the drive back to Macomb to get set up for the next broadcast. I will go further into the reasoning in the next blog entry for broadcast 56.
This was a game that, with little prep time, I was unsure of. I know very little about either team, though fortunately I saw the Hornets take on Quincy Notre Dame in the morning session. Brown County had a lot of trouble handling the ball in the morning, but they were also playing one of the best 2A teams in the state.
A few coaches stuck around to take in this game, with Jim Cole (Monmouth-Roseville), Ken Schuster and staff (West Hancock), and Matt Long (Central/Southeastern) all sitting together in the bleachers.
The game got off to a slow start, with the Lady Eagles jumping out to a 14-7 lead after eight minutes. After the first quarter, it seems that the Hornets may struggle with ball handling, in general. Brown County had 11 turnovers in the first quarter. Lexi Neisen had a big opening quarter, scoring 11 points.
Credit the Hornets, with the team only turning the ball over four times in the second quarter. Liberty took a 28-20 lead into the locker room at halftime. The second half was not pretty for Brown County.
The Hornets mustered only two field goals in all of the third quarter, and just three more in the fourth quarter. Liberty led 40-27 heading into the fourth quarter. This game was just not a very well played game. A lot of turnovers, bad fouls being committed, and shots not falling.
Liberty pulled out the win, 51-34. Leading the Lady Eagles was Lexi Neisen with 14 points and Dakota Flesner's 11 points. Liberty committed 13 turnovers, while forcing 25. Brown County's Cassie Lipcaman scored a game-high 17 points, and went (9-10) from the free throw line.
While the fourth quarter expired, I started packing as much equipment as possible while broadcasting, to get a head start leaving the gym and making the trip back to Macomb for the next broadcast. Those details in broadcast blog #56.
