In a previous blog I mentioned the tricky pronunciations of Teutopolis at the Charleston Holiday Tournament. Nothing compares to a Saturday in Bushnell.
I was broadcasting games for 104.7 WLMD (Macomb/Bushnell) during the 2005-06 season, covering mainly the B-PC Spartans. Covering a void in the Spartan Tip-Off Classic was a team from the west suburbs, Lombard College Prep, a complete unknown.

I was pretty close on my 9:30 tip-off prediction, it was actually 9:35! As we went to break during our pregame show, I was beginning to calculate my arrival at home. Early estimates pegged a 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. homecoming.

The schedule of the holiday tournament had the girl's championship game tipping off at 7:00, with the boy's tipping off at 8:15. That's not wishful thinking, that's just downright impossible.

It occurred to me as lunch time approached, that I hadn't eaten any fast food in my three days on the road in Charleston. There was a string of three fast food stops in my trips to Sterling, DeKalb, and Crystal Lake last week. That is just three fast food stops in the last two-plus weeks. Not bad, however I wouldn't exactly call my meals healthy while in Charleston, which includes a heaping and never-ending plate of Ultimate Nachos from Buffalo Wild Wings, an order of Asian Zing wings on a previous BWW trip, and the Cody's Pretzel Burger at Cody's.

There was really no plan for today's schedule of broadcasts. It was going to be a "practice round." Honestly, these games with very little planning really help my normal broadcasts. Sure that sounds funny, but these are the games that keep me on my feet and are a huge challenge. I must memorize two entirely foreign rosters in a matter of minutes before tip off. Despite being poor form in a broadcast, it is great practice, almost like a mind exercise. It makes remembering names that much easier.

Just like Mattoon, Rantoul was a game that Galesburg could win or lose. After watching the Eagles play Mattoon on Monday, I felt that the Silver Streaks were the better team, and best in the pool.
Rantoul features Travis Britt, a 6'3" junior that is back in Rantoul after spending his first two high school seasons at Culver Military Academy in Indiana. He is receiving interest from Indiana, Dayton, Drake, and Illinois State.
