Once again at the Galesburg Mid-Winter Classic, I was running behind. This same tardiness hit me last year. Normally, I am at the gym a couple hours before a broadcast.

These 9:00 a.m. games get me. Here is example "A" of why it is a pain in my rear living an hour away from my "home" games. While I wasn't late, per se, I was still rushed when arriving to John Thiel Gymnasium.

A Christmas Tale
My most memorable Christmas gift was given to me when I was a junior in high school. Thinking about it, and comparing to other gifts, it seems silly that a video game takes the top honor. It was the video game, NBA Live '98 for Sega Genesis. Even stranger, I was never a "gamer." Sure, as a kid I grew up on Super Tecmo Bowl on Nintendo, and would spend 12 hours with a group of guys/kids playing tournaments into the wee hours. Why does a video game beat out my first gigantic late 90's cell phone, a flat screen TV, etc.? No idea, just one of my quirks, I guess.

Back pain, back pain, back pain. For some reason, some (at times) unbearable back pain took over throughout the day. Most of the day it was uncomfortable, but once I would get out of my chair, I almost fell to the floor with weakness in my right leg. It all began yesterday with some back discomfort, and morphed into some super pain today. The extent of my physical labor on an average day consists of carrying a duffle bag filled with headsets and broadcast equipment, though it can get pretty hairy at the fax machine sometimes.

The case of the wayward cell phone strikes again. Tonight's broadcast had all of the uncomfortable elements. First, a teeny tiny area to broadcast from in the weight room that overlooks the gym at United High School. Second, it had to be 80+ degrees, by far the hottest gym of the season, and the equipment once again gave us hiccups.

We interrupt this broadcast for technical difficulties...

It was close, but I was able to get all but the first 40 seconds of action. One of the biggest troubles in broadcasting is problems that can arise with equipment. When I first began broadcasting online with my own equipment, I was told that there are a few things that could occur and cause troubles. I find out quickly that first season.

After the Whitney Young/Springfield Southeast game, it would be tough to top that classic. Two players I was interested to see in this game were Lanphier freshman Larry Austin Jr. and Orr senior Mycheal Henry. Austin is ranked 20th nationally in the freshman class by ESPNU, while Henry is one of the state's top seniors, heading to the University of Illinois.

What a game I was expecting in this one, and it surely did not disappoint. I didn't know much, or anything, about the Spartans, but Whitney Young is a team that is ballyhooed in basketball circles, not just in Illinois, but at a national level with the amount of prospects on the Dolphins team.
